The class will use the Gordon West book, I use PowerPoint Presentations with the questions of the FCC exam with explanations using video or animated graphics. Items MUST be new and wrapped/bagged
(Size can be a surprise!!!)
- White Elephant Rules:
- Each player brings one wrapped gift to contribute to a common pool
- Players draw numbers to determine what order they will go in
- Alternatively, someone can draw names from a hat, or the order can be set by the organizer prior to the event
- Players display gifts so everyone can see them
- The first player selects a gift from the pool and opens it
- The following players can choose to either pick an unwrapped gift from the pool or steal a previous player’s gift
- Anyone who gets their gift stolen in this way can do the same – choose a new gift or steal from someone else
- After all players have had a turn, the first player gets a chance to swap the gift he or she is holding for any other opened gift
- Additional Notes:
- The White Elephant Gift should be something nice that the bearer would like for themselves, not a gag gift. Suggestions are a Christmas or holiday centerpiece, an adult beverage, or a seasonal treat like a box of candy or anything ham radio related.
- Three Swaps and You’re Out
If you get stolen from three times during the game, you are out of the game and can no longer be stolen from - Three Swaps and the Gift is Out
If a present gets stolen three times, it’s out of the game and the person who holds it gets to walk away with it
The CWops Award for Advancing the Art of CW
CWops is a club for
CW Operators. CWOps is a very different club and stands out as a unique
international organization because it advances the “state of the art” of
CW operating across the full spectrum of CW activities including:
- Early Introduction
- Rag Chewing
- Contesting
- DXing
- Awards Chasing
CW Ops is pleased to announce that it is sponsoring a "CWops Award for
Advancing the Art of CW" and is now accepting nominations for this
prestigious award for the year 2022.
The purpose of the award is to recognize individuals, groups, or
organizations that have made the greatest contribution(s) toward
advancing the art or practice of radio communications by Morse code.

- Authors of publications related to CW
- CW recruiters, trainers, mentors, coaches and instructors

Note: The award is not limited to amateur radio operators or their organizations

2022 ARRL Field Day
The 2022 ARRL Field Day is June 25-26.
The Radio Society of Tucson in conjunction with the Catalina Radio
Club will be participating in the ARRL 2021 Field Day from Mount
Bigalow (our usual camping site near the on the Mount Bigalow turn
off). We have Band captains for 40-meters, 20-meters, and 15-meters
plus VHF and UHF. The one thing we are missing is rain. The mountain
needs rain and lots of it. If we get the required rain, then we’ll
be in business for our usual mountain field day exercise.
On the logistics side, RST will supply the portable facilities, i.e.
porta-pottys. We are also working with Scout Troop 157 to set up a
portable kitchen serving breakfast, lunch, and supper.

The FCC has announced that rule changes detailed in a lengthy 2019
